Paul Nye has cleverly put together a new fun recording of listenable and danceable songs with words that entertain and encourage all people, but are targeted at children, teaching them important values like respect, kindness, forgiveness, and love.

The music on “Don’t Lick A Flagpole When It’s Cold” covers musical styles that span a generation of American popular music.

The title cut, “Don’t Lick A Flagpole When It’s Cold” is a humorous reggae-flavored tune about making good choices.

“Funky, the Math Monkey” finds the artist singing and talking about his fictitious pet monkey who loves math.  Musically, Nye’s “monkey” also happens to love disco, so the music is reminiscent of what one might hear in the movie Saturday Night Fever.

“ARITHMETIC” is a funk/hip hop song about math phobia, in which Nye has a chance to express his own struggles with understanding math in elementary school.

“Bob & Ruth” is a quirky folk song of a relationship that starts out bad, but ends “happily ever after.”  The song could be about any couple, but it isn’t until the last two lines that the songwriter reveals it’s actually about two hamsters in a cage who fight all the time, until they realize that their survival depends on forgiveness, love, and respect.

“When I Listen, I’m Silent” is song about two different words with all the same letters (anagrams) that are closely connected by their meaning.  “Feeding Time At The Zoo” is the obligatory “school lunch” song, but with a different twist.

Paul Nye not only sings and entertains children, but he works and interacts with them on a daily basis.  He knows what kids like, how they think, and what they listen to, and has created an album of “un-Barney-like” fun and melodic music that the whole family will enjoy listening to over and over again.
